Jorgensen Law, P.A. is a family-run personal injury law firm in St. Petersburg, Florida. For decades, we have represented people whose lives were changed in an instant by a car crash — and far too many of those crashes were caused by a driver looking at a phone. The Tampa Bay Safe Roads Scholarship was created to do something about it: we want to hear from students about how their generation can end distracted driving, and we want to help one of those students pay for school while they’re at it.
Eligibility
- High school seniors accepted to an accredited U.S. college, university, or trade school, or students currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate, graduate, or trade program
- Florida residents, or students attending a Florida school
- Minimum GPA of 2.5
- Employees of Jorgensen Law, P.A. and their immediate family members are not eligible
Essay Prompt
“Distracted driving is one of the leading causes of serious car accidents among young drivers. What would actually convince drivers your age to put the phone down — and what role should technology, law, or culture play in getting there?”
Original work only: Essays must be entirely your own writing. The use of AI writing tools (ChatGPT, Gemini, etc.) to generate or draft your essay is not permitted and is grounds for disqualification. We read for honest, personal thinking — specific stories and ideas only you could write are what win.
Write 500–800 words. We’re not looking for a research paper — we’re looking for honest, original thinking from the generation that can solve this problem. Personal stories are welcome.

- Include your full name, phone number, the school you attend (or will attend), your field of study, and expected graduation year
- Include proof of enrollment or acceptance (acceptance letter, class schedule, or student ID)
- Applications must be received by 11:59 p.m. ET on December 15, 2026
Selection & Award
Essays are reviewed by the attorneys of Jorgensen Law, P.A. and judged on originality, clarity, and practical insight. The winner will be notified by email and announced on this page on January 15, 2027. The $1,000 award is paid toward the winner’s tuition or qualified education expenses. One award is given per year; the scholarship recurs annually.
